Obituary of Bill Stieg

Norman “Bill” Leonard Stieg, age 87 of Mecosta, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at his home, with his loving family by his side. A funeral service will take place at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus, Saturday, May 22^nd, at 11am. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home, and again on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Surry Township Cemetery. 

Bill was born July 12, 1933, the son of Leonard and Lillian (Huyck) Stieg. He was a proud Air Force Veteran, serving his country during the Korean War. Bill was a member of the American Legion- Farwell, Eagles- Sanford, VFW Post 2335-Mecosta, and the NRA. Old cars and racing were favorites of his which led him to becoming a stock car mechanic. Bill worked for Dow Chemical for over 32 years before his retirement in 1984. He met and began dating Deborah Lassen in 1981, and the two later married on August 19, 2007. A true family man, Bill cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was fortunate to have many good friends in his life as well. They would often meet up and have coffee at Conley’s in the mornings, enjoying each other’s company. Bill was an avid hunter, connoisseur of sweets, and lover of western movies. A giving person, Bill had a heart of gold, and never made a single enemy in his 87 years on this earth. 

He will be deeply missed by his soul mate of 40 years, Deborah Stieg; children, John Stieg of Texas, Mark Stieg of Midland, Bobbie Jo (David) Lewellen of Texas, Kathy Lievrouw of Colorado, Angela (Kevin) Keindl of Montana, Amberlynn Stieg of Mecosta, and Deanna Petoskey of Mecosta; sister, Ruby Woods of Sanford; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his beloved dog, Piper, and the makers of Yukon Jack Whiskey. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tex Stieg; step-daughter, Tresa Barhitte, and , Ruth Woodcock.
