Jon Wernette

Obituary of Jon Wernette

Jon “Jack” Lee Wernette, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City. Jack’s family will greet relatives and friends Monday, May 24th, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Jack was born May 23, 1936, the son of Harold and Martina (Large) Wernette. He worked for Fabiano Brothers Distributing for 35 years before his retirement in 1996. While there, Jack met many people and made numerous life-long friends. It was a rare occasion when he would go somewhere and not know anyone. Once retired, and unable to sit still, Jack went to work at St. Ives Golf Course where he enjoyed interacting with fellow golfers. Hunting out west, fishing in Canada, playing basketball with friends, and bowling in Remus were all favorites of his. During his “down time”, Jack could be found cutting wood or working outside. Patient, outgoing, and friendly were all words used to describe him.

His sense of humor and warmth will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Irene Wernette; children, Ron (Brenda) Wernette, Tami (Ray) Welling, and Don Wernette; brothers, Chris (Sandy) Wernette and Tim (Linda) Wernette; grandchildren, Alyssa (Jeremy) Perkins, Matthew (Jody) Thompson, Richard (Michelle) Thompson, Leah (Corey) Flowers, Nicole (Kyle) Embry, Ethan Wernette, and Jeremy Fields; 15 great-grandchildren, and one on the way, and his beloved dog, Buddy.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Neddie; daughter-in-law, Marsha Wernette, and beloved dog, Charlie.
