Obituary of Marilyn Kay Smith

Marilyn Kay Smith, age 73 of Mecosta, passed away on Sunday August 27, 2017, at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital. Per her wishes, cremation will take place with no service to follow. 

Marilyn was born in Alma, MI on December 15, 1943, daughter of the late Keith and Virginia (Ferris) Evitts. An avid quilter, Marilyn could put the professionals to shame. She was extremely talented, and there wasn't a craft she didn't or couldn't do.  Known to be very independent, Marilyn would do anything she set her mind to, even if she probably shouldn't have. Her family remembers while pregnant with each of her sons, she shot a six point buck, with the oldest gun, in the most awful of hunting spots. There truly was nothing she couldn't do. 

Funny, stubborn, and a true Irish were all words used to describe Marilyn. 

Her great sense of humor will be deeply missed by her three sons, Brian (Karen) Smith, Paul Smith, and Garey Kent; siblings, Larry Evitts, Patricia Storey, and Richard Evitts; three grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
