Elsie Mae Crowley, age 81, of Remus, passed away February 16, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus, with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will be held on Monday evening, Feb. 19th, from 5 – 8 PM at the church with a Rosary service at 7:30 PM.  The family will also greet friends one hour, prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.  Burial will immediately follow the funeral service in St. Michael’s Cemetery.

Elsie was born February 20, 1936, the daughter of Clyde and Minnie (Godfrey) Fast. She married the love of her life, James Crowley, in 1955, and together the two grew their family to include seven children. Along with their children, James and Elsie also raised their nephew, Robert Fast, and granddaughter, Mackia (Crowley) Strong. Although it was no easy feat raising nine children, you would never know. Elsie was the rock of her family, getting them through tough times, not letting on that anything was wrong.  A wonderful seamstress, Elsie would make all of her children’s clothing, which is one of the many ways she taught them to be self-sufficient.

Elsie was a devout Catholic, dedicated to her parish and community. She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church, worked at God’s Kitchen, was president for a few years of the NCCW group at her church, ran the Super Senior program for over 20 years, was on the Remus Heritage Days Committee, was on the Wheatland Twp. Board, and involved with numerous women’s shelters for many years.  Elsie was known to be mom to everyone, taking all children in as her own, and never letting them leave hungry. Her work history would include being bookkeeper for Remus Oil, a teller at Old Kent Bank, and a Real Estate agent for 25 years.

Loyal, loving, generous, and angelic were all words used to describe Elsie.

Left to cherish her memory are her four sons, Timothy (Trudy) Crowley, Paul (Shelly) Crowley, Bryan Crowley, Patrick (Janice) Crowley; three daughters, Jane (Randy) Nyerges, Jean (Bruce) Mullard, Kathryn (Randy) Perrier; one sister, Stella (Stan) Buchtel; 25 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Sadly Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 2007; four brothers, Harold, Charles, Robert and Gerald Fast, and one sister, Barbara Thomas.

Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Mid Michigan Hospice or the American Cancer Society, Envelopes will be available at church.
