Grant Densmore

Obituary of Grant Densmore

Grant R. Densmore, our loving husband and father, passed away early Monday, September 3, 2018, at Woodland Hospice House in Mount Pleasant, at the age of 89. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, September 7th, at 11:00 AM, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Remus with Patti Hicks officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 AM to the time of service.

Grant was born April 22, 1929, the son of Thorton and Ruth (Renwick) Densmore, in Blanchard, MI. He married the love of his life, Doris Myers on March 9, 1951, and the two grew their family to include six children. Grant graduated from Blanchard high school before moving on to Central Michigan University for his Bachelors degree, and then Michigan State University where he earned his Masters degree in education. He taught at Alba, Port Austin, Blanchard, and Lakeview schools throughout his life. He was an educator for 13 years, and a counselor for 18 years. Because that didn’t keep him busy enough, Grant even taught driver’s education for a time.

Fishing, watching western movies, “putzing around” outside, and spending time with grandchildren were all favorites of Grant’s. He and his wife Doris enjoyed traveling when they were able, and even made trips to Germany and Scotland. Family was always a priority;Grant and Doris would travel to pick up their grandchildren, and take them on vacations that always ended up being educational and enjoyable. A jack-of-all-trades, Grant also enjoyed woodcarving and giving pieces of his work to family, building (he built all three of his homes), playing the banjo, and his daily walks.

Left to cherish Grant’s memory are his wife of 67 years, Doris; children, Julie (Steven) Nichols of Hessel, Debbie (Chris) Hornung of Dallas, Dan (Cathy) Densmore of Phoenix, Sue (Jim) Geffert of Corpus Christi, Matthew (Cheryl) Densmore of Ridge Crest, and Tammy (Robert) DeLong of Lake Isabella; 19 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four sisters, and one granddaughter.
