Obituary of George William Minkel

George William “Bill” Minkel, age 84, passed away at his home on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 under the care of his family and hospice.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Sept 14, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant.  Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 13^thfrom 5:00 – 8:00 PM at St. Michael Church with Rosary at 7:30 PM.  Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Cemetery following service.

Bill was born on July 1, 1934, the son of George William and Verba Irene (Baker) Minkel in Mecosta. On Nov. 24, 1956, he married Leila Baldwin at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus.  Bill was described as easy going, a loving father and grandfather. The grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved playing cards, enjoyed the game of golf and every other kind of sport.  His lawn was “his lawn” and mowed with perfection!   He retired from General Motor’s, Coldwater Rd. Plant in Flint, MI after 30 plus years.  Bill was very proud to have served his country in the United States Army A Battery, 171st. Artillery Regiment, 45^thInfantry Division based in Korea from 1953-1956.  

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leila; his six children, Patrick Minkel, Michael (Ann) Minkel, Sherry (Phillip) Adams, David (Dawn Allen) Minkel, Thomas (Tina) Minkel, Sandra Minkel; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Randy Joseph Minkel; and brothers, Robert and Bernard “Pudge” Minkel.
