Becky Hooper

Obituary of Becky Lou Hooper

Becky Lou Hooper, of Mecosta, passed away after a prolonged struggle with pancreatic cancer on April 7, 2019.

Her earthly life ended at last in the peace of Christ at her home in the company of family.

Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! (Psalm 128:1-5 ESV).

Becky was born September 19, 1955 in Saginaw, to Michael and Mary Lou Kissane (nee Nightlinger). She was predeceased by her parents, a stillborn sister, Mary, and father-in-law, Allan Hooper.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, William Hooper; children, Krista Jean (Allen), Kale (Tabi), Hooper, and Alissa Hooper; five brothers, Michael (Coleen), Thomas (Heesook), Daniel (Heidi), James, Bernie; one sister, Marissa Huntley (Darren); her mother-in-law (and matriarch to the Hooper’s), Sharon Hooper, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Sue Ann, Gary (Michele), Pamela Balcirak (Rick), and Michael (Mary). Her treasured grandchildren are Karlee, Cade, and one on the way!

Becky attended St. Valentine’s Catholic School thru 8thgrade and graduated in 1973 from Central High School in Bay City, MI. She had a long career in banking, taking a hiatus to be a great stay-at-home mom to her children. In 2009, Becky gleefully declared herself “semi-retired” as she accompanied her husband into formal church ministry. She served as church treasurer, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout den mother and school volunteer. She was passionately involved in both Lutheran via de Cristo and Keryx Prison Ministry.

A memorial worship service will be held in Becky’s honor Monday, April 15, 2019, at 11 AM, at Chapel of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Mecosta, with her husband, William Hooper, officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Visitation will be held at the church from 3 PM to 7 PM on Sunday evening.

Memorials are asked to be directed to Chapel of the Lakes Scholarship Fund or Memorial Garden Fund.
