Obituary of Evelyn Judith Sitterson

Evelyn Judith Sitterson, our powerhouse of a mom, grandma, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly April 18, 2019. She was 60 years old. Per her wishes, cremation will take place with a Life Celebration to follow on Sunday May 5th.  Motorcycle procession (cars will follow behind or park along the route) will start at 12 noon from Harley Davidson shop (address to follow) and celebration of life will be at 40ENeight VFW Hall in Lansing, between 1 and 1:30.  More information to follow, including requests for food to share. American legion 2949 S.Waverly Hwy, Lansing, MI 48911.

Evelyn was born February 13, 1959, the daughter of Wooster and Judith Buckingham. She married the love of her life, Douglas Sitterson Jr., on August 27, 1988, and the two spent 27 wonderful years together before Doug’s passing in 2015. Evelyn enjoyed being outdoors, boating, and most of all, riding her motorcycle. She could often be found taking pictures, painting, or reading. A believer in empowering other women, Evelyn was always sure to do her part in lifting up others. Whether it was being a shoulder to cry on, or offering a listening ear, she was a great comforter and friend. She was proud of her accomplishments working for the State of Michigan, even going back to school while working to further her career.

Evelyn was described as being warm, big hearted, and outspoken. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body (unless someone was messing with her family). She is thought to have never met a stranger, even if you didn’t want to hear her life story, you were going to anyway.

Her giving nature and vibrant character will be greatly missed by her children, B.J. Walter and Darci (Nate) Ebel; grandchildren, Taylor Craig, Logan Walter, Ruby Walter; her five brothers: Wayne and Elizabeth (Betsey) Buckingham, Robert(Bob) and Carol Buckingham, William(Bill) and Millita Buckingham, Richard(Rick) and Bonnie Buckingham, Joel and Dorinda Buckingham, and Brother-in-law James(Jim) and Annette Morris, and numerous other grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Douglas, and son, D.J. Sitterson.
