Obituary of Peter Thomas Grandy

On Thursday, February 20, 2020, Peter Thomas John Grandy, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at age 78 at his home in Mecosta, Michigan surrounded by family.  

Peter was born June 10, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Thomas Candido and Angeline Josephine Bono Grandy. He graduated high school in 1960 from Catholic Central in Grand Rapids.  On November 3, 1962 he married the beautiful Gloria Kay Becker. Together they raised one son Peter Jr. and two daughters Angela and Gina. 

For 38 years Peter worked as a warehouse manager for Meijer where he was hard working and well respected. He was involved with Shaklee Nutrition and was a Distributor for 40 years.  His real labor passion was Flea Marketing which he did for 35 years; 5 of which he was the owner of the Mecosta Flea Market. One might says he owned the first dollar store. He was a member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus.

Peter was passionate about many things especially his favorite sports teams.  The Michigan Wolverines was his favorite team; with runner-ups being Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers.  Every year for 23 years Pete looked forward to being a winter Texan at the Winter Green Estates in the Rio Grande Valley where he enjoyed the community which he was very involved.  He loved being outdoors tinkering around and working in his yard.  

Peter was preceded in death by his parents Angeline and Thomas Grandy, his brother Anthony Grandy and grand-daughter Erika Ellen Furseth.   He leaves behind his wife Gloria Kay Becker Grandy, his children Angela (Terry Myers) Grandy, Peter (Jody) Grandy,  Gina (S. Scott) Gaille, his brother Angelo (Margaret) Grandy, his sister Mary (Phil) Wolters, his sister-in-law Ruth Grandy, 10 grand-children, 11 great-grand children, several nieces and nephews and good friends.  

A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 8929 50th Avenue, Remus, Michigan on Tuesday, February 25 at 11:00am with Father Tom Boufford as Celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. The burial will follow mass and then a lunch reception.
