Obituary of Rebecca Andrea Flachs

Rebecca Andrea Flachs, vibrant wife, daughter, mother, sister, and so much more, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, June 24, 2020. She was 44 years old. A celebration of her beautiful life will be held Saturday, June 27th, at 2:00 pm, at the Clear Lake Golf Course. Visitation will be held at the golf course on Saturday from 12:00 pm to the time of service. The outdoor visitation and service will be followed by an outdoor luncheon.

Rebecca was born May 15, 1976 in Eaton Rapids, MI, the daughter of Pamela and Frederick Hazen. The family moved to Barryton when she was five years old, and she was locally educated through the Chippewa Hills school system, graduating in 1994. After high school, Rebecca went on to study hotel and restaurant management at Northwood University. She married Tyler Flachs on September 28, 2002, and the two were blessed with two children, Joel and Harley Flachs.

Blunt, sassy, outgoing, and stylish were all words used to describe Rebecca. She had a huge personality and loved with all of her heart. Her caring nature attracted many friends over the years, as well as numerous kids that she was a “bonus mom” to.

In November of 2016, Rebecca and her family were faced with the tragic news that she had breast cancer. But being the strong fighter that she was, she faced her cancer head on, in typical Rebecca fashion.  For a while the storm seemed to calm, until she received the devastating news in December of 2018 that her cancer had spread. And even so, she remained a warrior until the end.

Her sarcastic yet loving ways will be sorely missed by her parents, Pamela Hazen and Frederick Hazen; husband of over 17 years, Tyler Flachs; children, Joel and Harley Flachs; siblings, Levi (Kay) Hazen, Luke (Samantha) Hazen, Ashley (Paul) Doerr, and Greg Risner; and numerous aunts, uncles, and special friends.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her grandparents, Don and Jean Hazen, and Betty Lou Flahrity.

Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Karmonas Cancer Center in Mt. Pleasant, MI.
