Obituary of LaMoine Smith

LaMoine Smith, beautiful artist, loving mother, caring grandmother, and so much more, passed away January 8, 2021, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. She was 97 years old. 

LaMoine was born April 27, 1923, the daughter of Lester and Alice Ruth (Cross) Green. She attended Remus Consolidated High School and later attended Alma College to become an LPN. LaMoine worked at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility as a nurse for many years, touching numerous lives along the way. Known as “the mother of the church”, LaMoine was an active member of the Wheatland Church of Christ, even singing in the church choir. She had a great sense of humor and an eye for design. Her artistic abilities graced many family members and friends over the years with personalized Christmas cards and ornaments, as well as portraits and paintings. LaMoine enjoyed time in her flower garden, spending time with her great-grandchildren, and watching the Detroit Tigers play baseball. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary Guy, Lester (Deborah) Smith, Ronald (Teresa) Smith, Janice (John) Johnson, Ruth (Kenneth) Cook, and John (Kathy); 21 grandchildren, and 54 great-grandchildren.

LaMoine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Gilbert Smith; son, Michael Gene Smith, and siblings, Winifred, Rosco “Dewey”, Thomas, Lester “Jake”, Lorna, Doyle, Robert, and one baby brother. 

Visitation will be held at the Wheatland Church of Christ on Friday, January 15^th, from 11 am to 12:30pm, with a private service to follow at 1pm. Those desiring to virtually take part in the service may do so by going to the Wheatland Church of Christ Facebook page at 1pm on Friday, to view the live service. 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wheatland Church of Christ, or to The Old Settlers Reunion Association Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
